Mel, the Coordinator at SARU said
“National Self Advocacy Day is a day for celebrating achievements and empowering people with disabilities to raise their voices on issues that are important to them.”
On Wednesday 9th October 2024 Self Advocates Cameron and Janet as well as Sally and Mel from SARU (Self Advocacy Resource Unit) travelled from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast Qld to attend the Loud and Clear Qld All Abilities Conference.
They had an important message for conference attendees – the launch of National Self Advocacy Day!
Each year, the second Wednesday of October will now be National Self Advocacy Day.
Janet said “National Self Advocacy Day is all about Nothing about us without us! Self Advocacy matters because the voice of people with disability matter and are the most important. Thank you Loud and Clear for inviting us to present and being such strong Self Advocates.”
Loud and Clear Qld member Payge said “It was great to have SARU at our conference launching this important day with the members of Loud and Clear Qld’s self-advocacy group and the people who attended”.
Following on from the launch, now is the perfect time to start planning your activities for next year’s National Self Advocacy Day which will take place on Wednesday, October 8 2025.
