Information guides that make a difference

As providers of information and referrals it just made sense that having heard so many stories of this need, we should do something about it.  Working with Steven (employed by P2P at the time) we created the first versions of the Now I’m 16 and Now I’m 18 Transition guides.  There have been many versions over the years as information changed and we added more content. The guides were available on our website and handed out by Education Queensland staff.

Fast forward to 2023 and it was time to update the information again.  As we were working through it, an idea formed.  Could we offer this as a workshop so that  families could get together and network with other families.  While there we could take them through a deeper ‘dive’ into the links and help them get signed up rather than just giving them a book and leaving them on their own.

We decided the idea was worth exploring and have now delivered five workshops with more planned soon.

While we understand that this model doesn’t suit everyone and some people would like to still be able to just print the guide from our website, we truly believe that this is a good opportunity for families.  The cost of the workshop (sorry, however, the block funding that used to fund this work has now stopped) is able to be claimed against an NDIS plan.

Participants from previous workshops tell us that they “got a lot of value out of the session”; that the workshop is “packed full of information they desperately needed and were clueless about” and they now have “a more clearer focus and are on the right pathway to endless opportunities”.

If you are interested in finding out more about the workshop and when we can deliver one near you, please send an email to info@p2pqld.org.au.
