In the Sunshine Coast hinterland town of Woombye, Loud and Clear Qld members attended the Woombye Happy Days Festival with a sweet mission – to make milkshakes to raise funds for their upcoming annual all-abilities self-advocacy conference and concert event.
The Festival, a 1950s / 60s themed community event provided the perfect opportunity for the self-advocates to make and sell milkshakes as people enjoyed the dancing, bands, children’s activities, classic cars, and market stalls.
As festival goers strolled through the streets, Loud and Clear Qld members handed out flyers encouraging families to enjoy a freshly made milkshake with the home-baked goods the ladies from the Country Women’s Association made.
By buying a milkshake, locals not only enjoyed a sweet treat but also contributed to the fundraising with 100% of the funds raised from the milkshake sales going directly towards the annual conference and concert being held on 9th and 10th October at The Station, Birtinya (formerly Night Quarter).
It was more than just a fundraiser; it was a chance for the community to learn about Loud and Clear Qld and that they raise awareness of the rights of people with intellectual disabilities.
As the day drew to a close, Loud and Clear Qld members reflected that it was more than just a chance to raise funds—it was about coming together to make a difference.
Thank you to Maleny Dairies for supplying the milk, the Woombye Community and Business Association for the opportunity to participate in the day, and everyone who bought a milkshake.
