What’s On September: Fraser Coast and Hinkler

What's On Fraser Coast and Hinkler

The Fraser Coast and Hinkler team are looking forward to an exciting September, filled with opportunities to connect, collaborate, and share with our community.

Your Life, Your Rights Workshop

On Wednesday, 17 September, we are hosting the Your Life, Your Rights workshop for people with intellectual disability, their families, and supporters. This free workshop is co-facilitated and provides practical tools, shared stories, and learning to help people feel confident in speaking up and getting their rights met when accessing NDIS services.

On Thursday, 18 September, a second Your Life, Your Rights workshop will run, this time designed especially for supporters and service providers of people with intellectual disability. This session will explore rights, advocacy, and practical strategies for ensuring people with disability are fully supported to have their rights respected.

For more information about either workshop, please contact Matt King via email: matt.king@p2pqld.org.au

Let’s Talk Peer Group: Maryborough

On Wednesday, 24 September, the team will be hosting the Let’s Talk Peer Group in Maryborough. These groups provide a welcoming space for people with disability, families, and supporters to come together, share experiences, and learn from one another. To find out more or RSVP for the Let’s Talk peer group please email Jane: jane.hudson@p2pqld.org.au

FestABLE: Hervey Bay

Later in the month, on Friday, 26 September, the team will be attending FestABLE in Hervey Bay. This unique community event is designed and managed by people with disability in collaboration with community leaders. FestABLE celebrates inclusion by bringing the community together in a safe and welcoming space. Attendees can connect with disability service providers and community services while enjoying a variety of stalls, live performances, entertainment, and displays from micro enterprises run by people with disability. It’s a wonderful testament to the importance of co-design and accessibility in building stronger communities.

Emergency Preparedness for People with Intellectual Disability Program (EPPID)

The Fraser Coast and Hinkler team will be introducing the Emergency Preparedness for People with Intellectual Disability Program (EPPID). This important new initiative will support people with intellectual disability in the Fraser Coast to better prepare for climate-related disasters. Developed through a co-production model, the program will create accessible, Easy Read resources that reflect the real-world needs and communication styles of people with intellectual disability. By working with health, disability, and emergency services, the project aims to strengthen collaboration and embed inclusive planning into disaster preparedness.

This project is supported by the Resilient CARE program, a Country to Coast Queensland and Australian Business Volunteers partnership, with funding from the Australian Government.

If you would like to be involved in the program or would like further information, please email Sonja at sonja@p2pqld.org.au.
