Connection, creativity, and learning are all on the calendar this month for our P2P Central Queensland community! Our Stand By Me Peer Group will meet twice in November, starting on Wednesday, 5 November from 12:30–2:30pm at the Philip Street Community Precinct, Nutchee Building (Yellow Building). This session will explore safety in the community, with practical tips and discussions to help everyone feel more confident when out and about. The final Stand By Me Peer Group for 2025 will be held on Wednesday, 18 November, also from 12:30–2:30pm at the Nutchee Building, and will be a festive Christmas Cookie Decorating Party. It’s a great way to celebrate together with friends, laughter, and a little creativity (plus, who doesn’t love cookies?).
Our My Time Parent and Carer Peer Group will meet on Tuesday, 11 November from 5:00–7:30pm at the Wellways Carer Hub, 1 Buller Street, South Gladstone for a fun and relaxing Paint & Sip Party. This special evening will include a paint-by-numbers activity, shared dinner, and some dancing! Please bring a savoury plate to share – everything else will be provided. It’s the perfect chance to unwind and enjoy some time together with fellow parents and carers.
Rounding out the month, we’ll also be hosting a Supported Employment and Advocacy Workshop on Wednesday, 19 November from 1:30pm at the Maxine Brushe Meeting Room, Philip Street Community and Families Precinct, Pengelly Street, Gladstone. This accessible session is designed for people with intellectual disability, their families, and supporters, and will provide valuable information about Supported Employment and the Disability Support Pension (DSP). It’s a great opportunity to learn more about your rights, build confidence, and connect with others.
We will also have the Now I’m Becoming an Adult Workshop, which will take place on Wednesday, 26 November from 10:00am-12:00pm at the Maxine Brushe Meeting Room, Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct, Pengelly Street, Gladstone. Becoming a legal adult comes with new rights, responsibilities, and choices, and this FREE workshop will help participants (and their parents/carers) understand topics such as government services and supports, working and getting a job, decision-making, voting and driving, medical care, money, relationships and protecting your identity, and accessing community support and resources.
November is set to be a month full of connection, learning, and fun – and there’s still more to come in December, so the community spirit continues right through the end of the year!
