What’s On July: Fraser Coast and Hinkler

What's On Fraser Coast and Hinkler

Growing with our local communities

P2P Fraser Coast and Hinkler has been working closely with our local communities to deliver important opportunities for connection, support, and lifesaving learning.

safeTALK Suicide Prevention: Hervey Bay

In Hervey Bay, we recently hosted two safeTALK Suicide Prevention Workshops. One workshop was specifically designed for people living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, their families, supporters and carers – offering a safe, inclusive space to learn how to recognise signs of suicidal thoughts, ask the right questions, and connect people to the help they need. The second session welcomed frontline and community workers, providing practical skills to support those they work with every day. The feedback from both sessions has been powerful, and we’re incredibly proud to help bring these important conversations to the forefront.

Let’s Talk Peer Group: Maryborough

In addition to safeTALK, we’ve continued building peer support across our communities. Our recent Let’s Talk Peer Group in Maryborough brought together people with disability, their families, carers, and others who simply wanted to connect with those who understand the unique challenges and triumphs of this journey. These sessions are relaxed and welcoming, offering a space for real stories, shared experiences, and practical support (complete with lunch!)

At the Maryborough session, we were joined by Tracey Lloyd from BUSHkids Fraser Coast, who spoke about the NDIS Early Childhood Approach. Tracey explained how the Early Childhood Partner program can support children under six with developmental delays or under nine with disability, and how families can access early supports when they need it most. It was an insightful, supportive session — and everyone left with something valuable to take home.

Let’s Talk Maryborough Peer Group Recap

Our May Let’s Talk Peer Group meeting brought together a wonderful mix of allies, parents, individuals with disabilities, supporters, and carers for an inspiring session in Maryborough. The gathering created a welcoming space for connection and learning, complete with lunch and thoughtful hospitality.

Guest speaker Tracey Lloyd delivered an excellent presentation about BUSHkids Fraser Coast. BUSHkids specialises in supporting children under nine with permanent disabilities, focusing on health and wellbeing rather than diagnosis. As both a BUSHkids representative and Triple P Positive Parenting Program facilitator, Tracey’s expertise sparked engaging discussions about family support and positive parenting strategies.

Coming up

Looking ahead, we’re excited to bring the safeTALK workshops to Bundaberg in July. We’ll be hosting two free sessions on Wednesday 30 July and Thursday 31 July, and we encourage anyone who wants to gain confidence in supporting those at risk to come along. More information will be shared via our Facebook group soon.

If you missed out, our next Let’s Talk Peer Group will be happening in Hervey Bay on Tuesday 15 July, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with Bushkids as our Guest Speaker!

You can look forward to a welcoming space where stories are shared, experiences are heard, and support is always on offer. A light lunch will be provided, and there’s no pressure — just an opportunity to connect with people who truly understand.
