Yes, Darwin is in Northern Territory, but it’s on the Northside. I know, confusing right, that is if you don’t understand where North, South, East and West are on the world map. Like me, I still don’t know.
My colleagues and I went to Darwin recently (the same colleagues that went to Alice Springs). It was great to see the team again from Alice Springs and Darwin and also some new faces from Darwin.
We did do PATH with the team, but it went a bit differently this time; we did organisational PATH for organisations – meaning instead of doing it individually like what we did in Alice Springs, we wanted to know how PATH works on an organisational side.
I also mentioned my self advocacy group for people with intellectual disabilities called Loud and Clear QLD and they were interested to know what we do in Loud and Clear QLD. I informed them that we hold meetings every 3 weeks to discuss how to plan events, but most importantly talked about our own conference/concert down here on the Sunshine Coast.
And guess what? They loved how passionate I spoke about my group that they wanted to create a conference/concert in their own Territory! I love how I can inspire people!
My colleagues and I went to see the Mindil Beach Sunset Market on Thursday night. It was great (I think it was bigger than the Eumundi Markets on the Sunshine Coast) they had a band playing – even though the music was older then me, I knew some of the songs that were played, and they also had camel rides. Wow!
We were also there for one more thing – seeing the sunset over the beach. Which was breathtaking!
I hope I can do more travelling, and go to different places like Darwin. Yes, going sightseeing to see places is extraordinary, don’t get me wrong, but I also love how I can share my experiences and learn how to be a co-facilitator and become a role model for people with disabilities. I hope I can travel to more places for my work and teach others.
