Hi guys,
It’s me with another article. It might sound very similar to my last letter, ‘Northern Territory events’ but it’s about, ‘My trip to the Northern Territory’.
Yes, I’m back from the Northern Territory.
We had a half day tour on Monday which was amazing. We learnt and I was inspired behind how Alice Springs came to be – Alice Springs was named after Alice Todd, she was the wife of Sir Charles Todd. I can’t remember every detail about what our tour guide said. However I did find it interesting to learn the history behind it.
All the places we went too were stunning, even with the rain on that day. It looked different than seeing it on a hot sunny day, which was a different perspective’. There was one place that I can remember though and the rock mountain was called, ‘Honeymoon Gap’. Yeah odd right? But it was beautiful and if you are ever in or born in Alice Springs then I suggest that you do a half day tour. It’s amazing.
Then the last few days we did the facilitation PATH training for people with disabilities, so they can have an understanding of what it is about and to teach others and so on.
There are 2 parts of PATH, and I led Day 1. I told them what PATH is all about. It was tiring at the end for me. It always is when presenting.
Day 2 was slightly easier since it was mostly graphics and observing when it was time for the group to do their own PATHs on themselves. My colleagues took over in that area.
There’s 3 people within PATH to help guide or help the Pathfinder (person the PATH is for):
Of course there is the person who the PATH is for: The Pathfinder.
We focus on that person with disabilities, what their dreams are, what their gifts and goals are in their own lives. If the Pathfinder is struggling then we can include their supporters. These people can be family, friends, support workers, etc – the people who the Pathfinder trusts.
There’s a graphic recorder: the graphic recorder writes and draws pictures of what people say. They can help if something is not clear and can do a little review of the pictures that were put on the paper.
Process Facilitator:
The process facilitator guides the conversation to help everyone feel safe to share their thoughts and ideas. And lastly
It was an amazing experience working with other facilitators and people with disabilities on how they learn and grow and what they can teach us as well. I liked visiting Alice Springs, even though it was mainly for work, it was a great experience to find out their history.
