Peer Group Meeting Recap – Maryborough, 29 April 2025
Our recent “Let’s Talk” Peer Group meeting in Maryborough brought together people with disabilities, families, and supporters for a warm and engaging discussion. Guest speaker Teri Oastler from APM Maryborough who shared insights on recent community changes and NDIS. Future guest speakers were discussed with P2P peer group following up with inviting Bush Kids to talk about 0-8 year olds’ supports.
The session encouraged participation through icebreakers and open conversation. Parent to Parent facilitators also introduced key services, such as P2P’s focus on peer support and family-led planning. The event concluded on a positive note, with attendees feeling informed and optimistic about future opportunities. comment from Peer group person: “I just really like being here as I feel that I am not alone”.
Let’s Talk Suicide Prevention Workshops Overview 1st and 2nd of May
The first of the series of the Let’s Talk Suicide Prevention Workshops across the Hinkler Region were held in Maryborough on the 1st and 2nd of May with 15 people in the community now trained in suicide alertness. Participants learnt skills in asking people about suicide directly, connecting them to lifesaving resources and keeping them safe until other resources take over. The next round of workshops are being held in Hervey Bay on the 19th & 20th June and in Childers on 23rd June.
