My Experience on the Disability Housing Bus Tour 2025 – By Payge

I recently went on a Housing Bus Tour with a colleague of mine. It was interesting to find out what it was all about and hear from people with lived experience about how they live independently.

Finding the right house for a family member or members with disabilities can be tricky and it might not work out for some people. It doesn’t mean you give up finding the right place, it just might mean that it’s not the right time or the person with disabilities is not ready to move. Take it from me.

I was nervous and wasn’t ready to move out at first because I needed to learn to cook, clean, make sure I keep up with paying my electricity bills, and mainly just to keep my house tidy and neat for when I have unexpected guests.

That’s what The Housing Bus Tour is all about: giving the people with disabilities and their families the connection with local experts who can guide them through housing options and provide information on different housing options on the Sunshine Coast.
