5 September 2024
On 22 August 2024, the Australian Parliament passed new NDIS laws. These changes are expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks (mid to late September) and will impact participants.
The main changes that participants can expect include:
- Changes to the supports that can and cannot be purchased.
- Changes to how eligibility is assessed (including the evidence that needs to be provided to the NDIA).
- Changes to how a plan will be created, set up and reviewed.
- Changes to how the funding is monitoried, tracked and claimed during the plan period.
Until the date of these changes is confirmed by the NDIA, participants are able to continue using their NDIS plan as usual. All processes and supports will stay the same for now.
The NDIA is gradually updating their information and resources for both participants and providers. To read more about the changes and what this means, visit the NDIS website.
You can also read in depth about the changes, including a list of the proposed supports that can and cannot be claimed from NDIS funding on the DSS website.
If you would like the opportunity to be involved in surveys, discussions and feedback sharing about these changes, the NDIA has created a group called the Participant First Initiative. You can register your interest to join by clicking here.
