Whether you’re receiving your first NDIS plan or your fifth, managing your funding can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are responsibilities for everyone involved, and understanding who does what can help you make the most of your plan.
The information below outlines how participants, providers and plan managers work together to support the effective use of NDIS funding.
The P2P Plan Management team is here to support you by processing claims, paying providers, and providing tools to help you monitor your budget. It’s important to know that plan managers operate within rules and requirements set by the NDIA – we always work within those boundaries to make sure your funding is protected. Within those rules, we’ll always do our best for you.
While your Plan Manager can provide support and information, decisions about how your NDIS funding is used remain with you as the participant or nominee. This includes managing your spending, checking invoices, and ensuring supports are appropriate for your plan.
Managing Your Funding and Staying on Track
Your role
Using your funding in line with your NDIS plan helps ensure your supports can continue throughout the life of your plan and reduces the risk of issues arising with claims or funding reviews.
- Check your spending regularly across your plan and funding periods.
- Make sure supports are funded in your plan and meet NDIS requirements.
- Think about how your current spending might affect your support needs later in the plan period.
- Read all the information provided with your NDIS plan and ask questions if you are not sure.
P2P’s role
We’ll support you by:
- Providing information and resources about plan management and NDIS funding.
- Answering questions where we can or referring you to the NDIA or other appropriate organisations when needed.
- Providing monthly statements and giving you access to Planability so you can monitor your funding at any time.
Checking invoices and resolving concerns
Your Role
Before approving an invoice, make sure it accurately reflects the services you received.
If something doesn’t seem right:
- Speak with your provider first – they’ll often be able to explain or fix it quickly.
- Contact P2P if you need help understanding the invoice.
- Work directly with your provider to resolve any disagreements about charges or services.
P2P’s Role
We review invoices to ensure they appear to comply with NDIS claiming rules and requirements. If we spot something that doesn’t look right, we’ll reach out to you or your provider to clarify before processing the claim, where possible.
Everyone’s Responsibility
Participants, providers, and plan managers all share responsibility for making sure claims are:
- Accurate and truthful.
- Based on supports that were actually delivered.
- Consistent with your NDIS plan.
- Compliant with NDIS and Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements
Claims and payment processing
Your Role
You can help payments run smoothly by:
- Encouraging providers to send invoices promptly to ndisfinance@p2pqld.org.au.
- Approving valid claims in a timely manner if you have chosen to approve your claims first.
P2P’s Role
We will:
- Process valid claims as quickly as possible, generally within 1-10 business days depending on your approval arrangements.
- Submit claims to the NDIA on your behalf.
- Pay providers promptly once funding has been received from the NDIA.
Using Funding in Line with Your Plan
Your Role
To help your funding last:
- Use your funding for supports that are included in your plan and meet NDIS requirements.
- Make sure that supports are reasonable and necessary under NDIS guidelines.
- Keep track of your funding periods and available budgets to make sure your funding lasts.
- Keep in mind that overspending may affect your ability to access supports later in your plan.
P2P’s Role
We will:
- Notify you when we become aware that your funding or funding periods are being used quickly or are low.
- Only process claims within your available plan funding and funding period limits – this is a requirement we must follow to protect your plan.
- Always operate within NDIA requirements, legislation, tax obligations, and the NDIS Code of Conduct.
Working Together
We understand that NDIS funding rules and budgets can sometimes be complex. If you’re unsure about anything, please reach out and we’ll do our best to help or point you in the right direction.
The best outcomes happen when participants, providers, and plan managers work together. By regularly checking your budget, reviewing invoices carefully, and asking questions when you’re unsure, you can help ensure your funding lasts for the supports you need throughout your plan.
