Fair Pricing for NDIS participants
When you purchase an NDIS support, you have the right to a fair price.
The NDIS publishes a document called the Pricing Arrangements and Limits Document. This document provides information and guidance to NDIS service providers on the acceptable maximum price that they can charge an NDIS participant and is reviewed regularly. Not all supports that a participant receives has a maximum price, but the ones that do are called price limited supports, and a provider cannot charge you more than this amount from your plan.
A common example of a price limited support is support work, therapy costs, yard maintenance, cleaning, and many more. Most services have a limit per hour, and some other items also have a limit that can be claimed.
This document only gives you a guide that you can work from, and all participants have the right to discuss the pricing and negotiate a fair rate. The provider does not have to charge the full cost. Even when there is no price limit, the price needs to be fair for everyone. There should be no major price differences between the cost of a product or service for NDIS participants compared to other customers without reasonable justification.
If participants think that they are being overcharged they can take some steps to ensure that the pricing is fair
- Do a price check: Go online and search for the same or similar products.
- Check your service agreement: Make sure you’ve received everything listed in the written agreement. If you do not have this document, or it’s out of date, ask your provider for a copy.
- Talk to your provider: If you’re comfortable speaking with your provider, ask them to explain any price differences – they should be able to give you reasons.
- Contact the NDIS Commission: If you cannot resolve the issue with your provider, email pricehelp@ndiscommission.gov.au.
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards commission has a team that will assist participants to review prices that are higher or excessive for NDIS participants. You can read more about the Fair Price Taskforce online or contact them by email at pricehelp@ndiscommission.gov.au
