From the Plan Managers (January 2025)

Setting Your NDIS Goals

By providing information about your goals, the NDIA can help create a plan for you that helps you with any disability related barriers that exist that might stop you from being able to achieve that goal.

The types of goals that you set could be on a number of different topics or areas of your life. They may be short-term or long-term. For example, a goal could be increasing your independence, getting a job or studying, or even participating in social activities in your community.

It can be hard to choose the goals that you want to achieve. It can be valuable to focus on small steps and short term goals. Use questions like the examples below to help you think about the areas you would like to focus on.

  • When you think of yourself being happy and living a good life, what comes into your mind? What do you see? Does anything need to change so that you can have that life?
  • When you think of yourself being happy and living a good life, what comes into your mind? What do you see? Does anything need to change so that you can have that life?
  • What is working well in your life now? How do we keep these things happening?
  • What is not working well in your life now? What needs to happen to change this? How do you think we could improve the situation?
  • What is the most important thing to you right now?
  • What are your future hopes for getting involved in social and community activities?
  • What are the things you would most like to change in the future?

It is also important to remember that you can always ask someone to help you come up with goals.
