From the 2nd to the 6th of December 2019 my friend Ashia Robinson and I took part in our end of year work experience at P2P. Parent 2 Parent focuses on giving people with disabilities the support they need to live their best life.
My time spent here has been nothing short of incredible, everyone who works here are wonderful and kind people who are so supportive and are all very invested in what they do.
Throughout the week we did a range of different activities that helped us see what working life might be like. The first day was mainly paperwork and creating booklets for the crew. The second day we went off to the Sunshine Plaza to watch a fashion show hosted by Target for International Day of People with Disability. It was an extremely heart-warming experience that everyone enjoyed, you can read and watch about it more in my blog.
The third day I spent most of my time writing a blog on our experience at the fashion show. The fourth day Ashia and I went down to NAYILS, an organisation that provides fun filled interactive programs and activities for people with disability. During that day we took a self-defence class with the people who were part of the program. We also engaged with them by playing games of pool or just having a conversation with them. The day was an amazing experience. Ashia and I learnt some very memorable moves including the Iron Dragon.
For the rest of that day I spent my time writing this blog. The last day was spent doing little tasks for some of the workers and finishing up writing this.
The experience I have had here has been amazing. Everything I have done and learnt will definitely help me out in the future even if I don’t choose a career in this field of work. It has taught me some very important life lessons that I believe everyone should learn.
So in saying that, if you are looking for work experience that involves hands on activities, useful tips and tricks for real world work and learning something about yourself and about others, I would definitely recommend for you to come to Parent 2 Parent.
