This month we’re sharing some reflections from one of our Stand by Me members, Amber, and her support worker, Brooklyn.
When asked what she enjoys most about Stand by Me, Amber said she loves the people in the group, how everyone listens to each other, and the chance to make real connections. One of her favourite activities was when each person chose an item from a bag and shared what it meant to them. Amber chose a book, which reminded her of reading her favourite story, The Lion King. For Amber, Stand by Me isn’t just about activities – it’s about joy, learning, and feeling connected. “It makes you happy, it makes you smarter, and it makes my heart full,” she said.
Brooklyn has also seen the impact of the group on Amber. “The best thing about supporting Amber to attend Stand by Me is watching her grow and flourish in a group setting, alongside others who are similar to her. Every week she is motivated and excited to attend, and I can see a change in her – Amber is becoming her true self.”
