Government Care army mobilised

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced today that a Care Army has been established to ‘rally around Queensland’s seniors’.
This includes a hotline phone number to ensure that the wellbeing of older Queenslanders (who are at increased risk during this pandemic) is being protected.
The purpose of the hotline is to ensure that seniors have access to essentials without having to leave their home.
Premier Palaszczuk likened this to the Mud Army that came into effect after the 2011 floods.
If you, or someone you know, are in a position to offer your services to seniors you can also call the hotline.
Minister Coralee O’Rourke also offered suggestions for keeping older family members safe. These include:
- Switching to a chat over the phone, video call or email instead of face to face visits
- Grandchildren not visiting anyone in the at-risk age group
- Getting the grocery list and doing the grocery shopping instead of taking those at risk to the shops
- Finding innovative ways to keep them engaged during periods of isolation
- Checking in regularly to ask how they are doing
