October is Self-Advocacy month

Loud and Clear Qld Self-advocates have double the reasons to celebrate in October.

Not only is their 4th Annual All Abilities Conference and Concert being held on the Sunshine Coast, but it is also Self-Advocacy Month!

What better way for members to demonstrate their motto “Inspiring inclusive communities through self-advocacy” than by holding a conference and concert for people with disabilities to come together to learn, network and celebrate?

There is a fantastic line-up of speakers and activities with something for everyone.  The event will finish with a concert on Thursday night before participants head home across the country.

SARU – the Self Advocacy Resource Unit is holding free online events across the month to celebrate and will launch National Self-Advocacy Day at the conference on Wednesday 9th October 2024.   We are looking forward to hosting SARU for the two days.

What is Self-Advocacy?

Why is Self-Advocacy Important?

Self-advocacy helps people with disabilities to build confidence to express their thoughts and feelings, make decisions, and build their skills.

Self-advocates:

  • learn about their rights
  • set and achieve goals
  • learn about things that affect them
