World Down Syndrome Congress

World Down Syndrome Congress by Payge Hollis

Last week I went to Brisbane by myself for the World Down Syndrome Congress. There were heaps of people with Down Syndrome coming from all over the world to attend the big event.

It was a great time.  I was mostly on the Inclusion Australia stall and I got to meet new people from around the world. I was professional but a bit cheeky at times.

I got to see my friends from Our Voice in person which was great since I only usually get to see them on zoom. We had dinner and had fun together.

The Congress was hosted by people with Down Syndrome.  I went to represent Qld on Our Voice and also be a member of Loud and Clear Qld.  I handed out as many flyers as I could to promote our upcoming All Abilities Self-Advocacy Loud and Clear Qld conference and concert flyers that’s happening on the 9th and 10th of October 2024.

I saw an Ibis (a bin bird with a long, scary nose), steal a friend of mine’s lunch. I laughed so hard that I won’t forget it anytime soon.
