As a Human Resources professional, Ryan has worked to apply his corporate experience in workforce planning, human potential and learning and development to establish the Career Development Centre for Vanguard Laundry Services.
As the Career Development Manager, Ryan has recruited and worked alongside all employees to ensure successful reintegration into the workforce after long-term unemployment.
Each individual has a career plan and there is a calendar of career activities utilising the support of local organisations and employers that are managed by Ryan.
Ryan has played a key role in the establishment of the Vanguard model of employment that differentiates it from other mental health employment projects including; a non-hierarchical work environment, equal opportunities for both internal and external career progression and full award wage open employment.
Vanguard Laundry Services is a social enterprise commercial laundry service with a mission to wash away mental health employment barriers. Officially opened by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in January 2017, Vanguard’s model of utilising a full-scale commercial operation to provide gainful open employment to those who are long term unemployed due to lived experiences of mental illness is on the radar of national policymakers.
